In the early stages of clearing acne, the goal is clarity. Using products with zero known pore-clogging
ingredients helps eliminate variables so you can clearly see how your skin is responding. This makes it easier to identify
true triggers, reduce ongoing congestion, and build a routine that actually works.
Once your skin is stable, ingredients can be reintroduced thoughtfully if appropriate.

How to read your results
This checker looks for ingredients that are commonly associated with clogged pores or stalled progress in acne-prone skin.
If something is flagged, it does not mean every person will break out from it every time but it does mean it may not be a good fit if your skin clogs easily.
High
A hard no for acne-prone skin. These ingredients are the most likely to clog pores and stall progress. If a product contains one of these, it’s usually not worth the risk during the clearing phase.
Moderate
Best to avoid. These ingredients are still a no for most acne-prone skin, but they tend to be a little more formula-dependent than the high category. They may not break out every single person, but they show up often enough in congestion-prone products that they’re usually not worth gambling on.
Context
Proceed carefully. These ingredients are not an automatic yes or no. Whether they cause problems can depend on the full formula, how much of the ingredient is used, whether the product is leave-on or rinse-off, how often you use it, and how reactive or acne-prone your skin currently is. A context-dependent ingredient is more of a yellow flag than a red one. If your skin is actively breaking out or you’re in the clearing phase, it’s usually smartest to avoid them. If your skin is stable and clear, they may or may not be an issue.
If your skin is actively breaking out, the safest approach is to choose products with zero flagged ingredients whenever possible.
